The only problem was that we weren't allowed to use the skull and crossbones/Jolly Roger thing. Mom came up with the idea of having a mommy pirate and a baby pirate, since she'd gotten an extra, smaller pumpkin to decorate. (Both pumpkins are fake, by the way.) Pictures will come in a later post, when the computer decides to be nice. :P

Pictures from the road

Well, since that was probably the last time I'd ever see that sign, I decided to take a picture of it. From this angle, it clearly says, "GO BEAVS" even though it looks like "beans" from the road. I think it's that post next to the S that makes it look strange. We left yesterday, to take Angie and Jack home to Corvallis, for what we assume is the last time.
On the way home, Mom and I stopped at an awesome fruit stand, where we looked around at the things for sale (some of which were quite amusing), and took pictures of a sign the owners posted. The sign said, "Go Beavs!", but on one of the first trips we made to Angie's apartment, I thought it said "Go Beans!" because the 'v' looked a little bit like an 'n'. Since then, we've referred to it as the "go beans sign."
For the first hour or so on the way home, Mom and I were behind an Otis Spunkmeyer van. I took a few pictures of it (that will be posted later, since I don't have the camera with me at the moment) and suggested that we ask the driver if he could throw us a cookie or two. :)

Girl's Camp!

My dad and I went to girl's camp this week. He went up on Monday (to help set up and get everything ready) and I (being a little third year girl) went up on Tuesday. We both got back today, a few hours ago. I have about 20 bug bites, since the mosquitoes were even more obnoxious than normal this year. About half of them are on my right ankle, which has swollen quite a bit. :( I might post some pictures of my bug bites later, but they're kind of gross.
We didn't take either of our cameras to camp, so I have no pictures to document the experience. That made me happy, so the first night we were there, my dad and I went downstairs to check our emails and such. My friend Nathan, knowing that we were in Idaho, requested that I bring him a potato when I came back. That made me laugh, but I decided that it'd be fun. My mom suggested that we take pictures of everywhere the potato went in Idaho, and so we did.

Here's the potato on one of it's first adventures, riding in the car to Dennis and Marieva's house for a 4th of July breakfast.

Here I am, holding Nathan's potato on the way to the breakfast. We had to drive both ways, and it took about 9 hours each direction. Yuck. I had plenty of opportunities to play with our new camera, though.

Here we see our little bobblehead buddy. That little white blob under his neck is because my mom wanted to sleep during the drive to Boise, but the monkey's bobbling kept her awake. My dad put that little thing there to keep the monkey's head from banging into his body and making a noise.

Okay, this picture is a little weird. The yellow "Raptor Storm" guy was purchased at the dollar store so that we could have something to blow up on the 4th. (Blowing it up proved to be a little bit impossible, since no fireworks that left the ground were legal in the county we were in. That meant no Roman candles or pretty much anything else that was the most fun to destroy toys with.) The rhino was found by my cousin Sarah and me in a local park. It opened up, so we just had to "rescue" it from the park where it had been abandoned. The potato....er...I'll explain about the potato in a later post. The giant red crayon was also bought at the dollar store, because it's just awesome. (Plus it's a very good weapon for duels and poking.)

When we weren't at our hotel, we were almost constantly at my great uncle Dennis's house. He and his wife, Marieva, have an awesome backyard that has a few swings in it. Mom insisted on getting a picture of me holding the potato on a swing.

We all gathered outside Dennis and Marieva's house for the fireworks, and had a lot of fun.

Here's what the little yellow guy and the rhino currently look like. My dad had a lot of fun with them. My cousin Sarah put some smoke bombs in the rhino, so that's why there's a bit of purple on him. The rest of the damage was done by ground bloom flowers, held against the poor toys. When you hold them against something, it pretty much makes them into a blowtorch. My dad had a lot of fun melting the rhino's back legs, tail, and face. He also melted the yellow man into a rather strange position, as you can see from the pictures.

Um...yeah..the rhino and ninja dude got pretty much mangled.

Well, that was our Fourth of July experience. (Here's a picture of what our old camera looked like.)

Then one day, there was scout camp (dun dun dun!), and Dad decided he'd bring along the happy little camera to take pictures of his happy little scouts. The camp was very cold, and the camera wasn't quite bundled up enough, so some of the stuff inside the screen froze! The poor little camera now had three large, feather-like, purple blobs across it's screen. The pictures it took were still fine, but when you were trying to take the picture, you couldn't tell what the picture was of.
Not too long after that, the sad little camera fell onto the sidewalk, so the battery and memory card wouldn't be held in by the springs anymore. When you opened the compartment where they were, they both flung themselves at you. Eventually, that compartment got duct taped shut.
For some unknown reason, along with the purple feathers, a huge black blob appeared on the screen, as well. The only part of the screen that can be used to judge about where the camera is pointing is the top left corner.

This pathetic little picture taker was getting very annoying to use, so yesterday, we decided to get a new one.
For our new camera, we got a Canon Powershot.

Hooray! This new camera is totally awesome. It has shooting modes for portrait, night snapshot, kids/pets, indoor, sunset, foliage, snow, beach, fireworks, aquarium, and underwater (yikes!). Oh, and you can see what your picture is of, too. :)

Here's what our old camera currently looks like...

Yup. That's our old camera, that I now get to use! (Hey, I know it's not the best camera out there, but it still takes pictures.) I'll be permitted to use our new camera too, of course, but our Konica Minolta is now my official camera. :D

Love,
Miriam :)

First Post!

Hey everyone,

Tonight I decided that this part of our family should have a blog, too, so here it is. There might only be three of us left here at home, but we still do some blog-worthy things.
Until yesterday, though, our camera was quite bothersome to use. (That story will be posted later.) We went to Costco and got a new (amazing) camera yesterday, so the blog will be more interesting than it would've otherwise been. Our old camera did still work, but, well, you'll see why we didn't use it very often...

Lots of love,
Miriam :)

(I'll try to convince Mom and Dad to blog sometimes, too, but I'm guessing I'll be the main updater.)
